FAQ
What is the actual project area?
The project study area consists of two roadways, East Century Avenue and Centennial Road. The proposed project would reconstruct 0.6 miles of East Century Avenue between Hamilton Street and Centennial Road; and 0.5 miles of Centennial Road between Trenton Drive and Jericho Road in northeast Bismarck.
What is the description of the proposed project?
The proposed project would reconstruct the existing roadway into a 4-lane divided concrete roadway with a flush median which would serve as a center two-way left turn lane. A 10-foot wide shared use path would be constructed on the north side of East Century Avenue and the west side of Centennial Road. The intersection of East Century Avenue and Centennial Road will be reconstructed to included a permanent traffic signal, additional turning lanes, and pedestrian crossings.
Why does this roadway need to be reconstructed?
Traffic volumes have increased resulting in the need to upgrade the roadway to provide additional capacity, update the roadway corridor to current design standards, provide pedestrian facilities, and improve safety.
Where is the funding for this project coming from?
Federal funds will cover 80% of the project cost and local funds (city of Bismarck) will cover the remaining 20%.
How can I participate in the planning of this project?
Two public meetings are scheduled for this project. The first public meeting is intended to present project alternatives, gather information from the public, and provide an update on the progress of project development and environment study. This meeting was conducted on April 16, 2009. The second meeting, called a public hearing, will be held towards the conclusion of the environmental document phase. The public hearing is tentatively scheduled for fall of 2009.
Will a traffic signal be installed at the Trenton Drive intersection?
The project would include installing permanent traffic signals at the intersection of Centennial Road and Trenton Drive and also at the intersection of East Century Avenue and Centennial Road.
